Bray Residence, Wicklow

Alteration, Renovation and Extension

What we did

A small, semi-derelict bungalow in Bray was substantially altered, renovated and extended in two phases, including the addition of an upper floor and more than doubling the total floor area. The finished house is an efficient contemporary family home that retains the charm of the original building, and now enjoys sea views, opens to a bright sunny garden and has fine interiors developed in collaboration with Maria Fenlon, Interior Designer (https://mariafenlon.com/)

Location: Bray
Status: Complete
Sector: Residential
Area: 161.5m²
Client: Private
Year: 2015 (Phase 1) 2020 (Phase 2)

Master Plan

The original single storey house was initially altered and renovated in 2015 within the original building footprint and with the intention to facilitate extending at a later date. Planning permission was then obtained to extend the house to the rear and create a new first floor under a completely new roof and metal-clad dormer, with completion in late 2020.

Maximising Space

The house feels bigger inside than it looks from the outside, with clever planning, excellent design and use of light making the most of the available volume. The generous living area is arranged to create linked zones to suit different activities, utilising a bespoke room divider and furniture designed and chosen by Maria Fenlon.
