Extension and Refurbishment

What we did

Substantial works to a derelict house requiring partial demolition and substantial refurbishment, along with significant internal alterations and a large two storey extension, were designed by Number 8 Studio (Steven Phillips along with Stephen Callaghan and Des Clarke) to create a new house in distinct parts – the original house in a historic style, a new contemporary wing and a ‘link’ between featuring a curved roof redolent of the vernacular agricultural buildings around the site.

After meeting with the client and discussing their specific needs we drew up a measured survey and made an appraisal of the existing house and its architectural possibilities. We then sketched out 3 initial concepts and after presenting these to the client one idea met with their approval.

The idea was then developed further and scale drawings were created. As planning permission was required for the project, Number 8 Studio made the application on behalf of the client.

Creating a unique space

The finished building combines the Architect’s design expertise and the craftsman’s skills with the client’s personal tastes and preferences. The result is a unique home specifically tailored to suit the client’s lifestyle.

Refined and crafted

The challenging design was guided smoothly through the Planning process and Number 8 Studio assembled and managed a design team to provide all the necessary information and satisfy the requirements of the Local Authority.

Adding the finishing touches

The design was developed into highly detailed drawings which were used to obtain competitive prices for the work, including new stairs, full bathroom fitouts and bespoke joinery, and then to guide the builders and subcontractors on site.
